DSTTi

  • Getting Started with the DSTTi

The new Nintendo DSi leaves you with so much more to do than the old DS because of its added enhancements including the ability to take pictures and the inclusion of the new DSi Shop where you can purchase games and applications the same way you do with the Wii using Nintendo Points. But if you compare it with other digital media devices that are similarly sized, they can do other things that the DSi cannot do such as multimedia playback.

The homebrew community has also made games for many of the past handheld systems and recently more games are being made for the DS. If you played homebrew games in the past using the DSTT, know that the DSTT doesn’t work with the new DSi. Fortunately the newly released DSTTi does and here’s how you can set it up for your system.

    Unpackaging

Before you try out your new DSTT DSi flash kit, make sure you possess the original one as there are many fakes being sold online and sometimes in stores. The newest DSTTi model has the SD card slot on the right if faced front. For more details, visit DSTT DSi anti-page at http://www.ndstt.com/anti_fake.html where you can find fake and real image comparisons.

Inside the package you should find a cartridge bearing the DSTTi logo and the free high speed SDHC card reader that it comes with. Use this first because the DSTT DSi’s primary feature is to play homebrew games and applications that are stored in the SD card.

Loading the SD Card with Supported Files

Take any SD or SDHC card and insert it into your desktop or laptop if you have a slot. If you don’t, you can always make use of the card reader that is included in the DSTTi package. After that, you can load the card with homebrew games that you find on the Internet or any backup copies of the games that you own. You can also fill it up with multimedia files including audio files, image files, and even video clips since MoonShell serves as the default media player for DSTT DSi. You can easily load the SD card using familiar drag and drop Windows methods the same way you fill up any storage media.

    Playing Homebrew and Backup Games

Once your transfers have been completed, you can eject the SD card and insert it into the DSTTi unit. After you securely placed it, insert the DSTT DSi into your DSi handheld as if you are playing a game and turn it on. After launching the icon, you should see a menu containing the list of files that you transferred. You can play games and other multimedia files from the interface. You can also apply cheats and set a number of parameters if needed. The interface is easy to use and you can navigate using your controls or the touch-screen.

DSTTi features a very easy setup and effectively plays all kinds of homebrew and backup games. Just beware of the fake imitations that severely underperform when compared to the original.
